Gill Doust

Spectrum core staff member

Gill Doust has a private practice working with individuals, couples and groups. She leads self-esteem and family workshops, on-going women’s groups and supervision groups. She has recently co-led a series of workshops on the family oriented approach of Virginia Satir.

A graduate of the Spectrum training programme, Gill is a Spectrum-accredited therapist registered with the UKCP and is a Spectrum core staff member. She is a leader on the Spectrum one year course in psychotherapy and Spectrum counselling course. She is a training advisor and supervises the Spectrum referral team. She is a member of the formative psychology study group, bringing a formative perspective to her work.

Background

Gill started her professional career as a childcare worker in the 1970s and campaigned for changes and innovative practice within childcare provision. She trained as a teacher in adult and further education and taught in a variety of settings including Holloway prison.

As a trainer with Social Services and a private consultant, she developed a variety of childcare training courses with a focus on the emotional wellbeing of the child and the nursery worker.

How Gill works

Gill’s work draws on her experience as a training consultant specialising in communication skills, childhood sexual abuse and equal opportunities work. Her work centres on dialogue and relationship with the individual and draws on humanistic approaches to therapy including formative psychology, gestalt therapy and transactional analysis.

She specialises in working with women, family work, separation and identity, and how we increase and maintain self esteem.
