Paul Allsop
Spectrum core staff member
Paul is a member of the Spectrum core staff and has a private practice working with individuals, couples and groups. He also provides supervision for individuals and groups and works with organisations as a facilitator and trainer.
He was a founder member of the Spectrum Incest Intervention Project and worked for fifteen years with adults who had been sexually abused as children and also with perpetrators of sexual abuse.
Background
Paul worked for many years as a volunteer with the Samaritans and the Social Services, specialising in working with young people, teenagers and families. During these years, his paid work was as an engineer in the electronics industry. He left electronics and qualified as a social worker in 1997 and in this capacity worked for Hampshire Social Services. When he decided to train to be a psychotherapist he worked for three years in Phoenix House, a residential drug rehabilitation centre in south London.
He trained in gestalt therapy in both America and Europe and has extensive experience in a variety of humanistic therapies. Paul has been part of the formative psychology education programme at Spectrum and works from a formative perspective.
How Paul works
Paul specialises in teaching practical skills for developing relationships and he was part of the team that developed the PAIRS (practical application of intimate relationship skills) course in Spectrum. He works with his wife Oriel Methuen and they are currently presenting a new course called Relationship Making.
