Koula Refahi

Spectrum Practitioner

Koula trained at Spectrum and is a graduate of the Spectrum training programme. She is a full registered member of the British Council for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Koula works with individuals and couples at Spectrum, and is on the continued professional development programme.

Koula worked at Spectrum as the office manager before completing her training. Her interest in the therapeutic field grew through her contact with people in the Spectrum community. Previously she worked on projects supporting both unemployed adults and adolescents, as well as working in education for many years. She has run a therapy practice at the Bloomsbury Health centre and has worked as a volunteer at MIND in Haringey. She gives an annual talk to students at the University of Westminster about how therapy can support in other fields of the health profession.

Koula grew up in the Greek community in London. She is married and her husband is of Iranian origin. She is a mother and a grandmother. Her interest in multicultural communities and identities stem from her own experiences growing up and as an adult in a mixed cultural marriage.

How Koula works

Koula is warm, friendly and challenging. She is interested to support people to explore difficult feelings they may be experiencing, to gain awareness and look at making goals they would like to achieve. She works with people from all religious backgrounds, sexual orientation and cultures. She is interested to support people to look at how people honour each other for what they have in common, as well as looking at cultural differences, gender issues and class systems. She works with personal and work related issues.

During sessions she will support you to explore your situation and voice your concerns and issues. Koula will listen and support you to gain clarity of your issues, patterns of behaviour, look at old habits and messages and define your goals. She works with empathy and warmth and will support you to face life’s challenges as well as being challenging when appropriate.

Sessions are completely confidential. Koula adheres to the code of ethics and practice of both Spectrum and The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
