Working with groups teaches the fundamentals of group work and how to be effective in leading groups. It gives participants a background knowledge in the history and development of therapeutic groups and a comprehensive overview of group work theory. Particular emphasis is on a humanistic approach to working in groups as developed and practised at Spectrum.
Through the experiential component of the course, participants are able to study group process, including group development and the dynamics present within groups. The course also explores a variety of leadership styles and effective methods of group facilitation.
Each participant has an opportunity to lead the group, practise applying the principles they have learned and recognise their own leadership style. Sessions are videoed and each participant is able to view and discuss their work with the group.
Working with groups is open to all practising psychotherapists who are making a transition to working with groups from individual or couples work and is part of the Spectrum training programme.
This group is limited to ten participants and is run over eight days.
