A diploma programme for professionals
This programme has evolved to give recognition to the many professionals who are part of the continued education programme at Spectrum and who apply their personal and professional learning in fields other than psychotherapy.
Participants of this programme participate in professional development groups including the Spectrum one year course in psychotherapy, the continuation, the post-graduate course and three years of a post-graduate continuation course. They participate in other Spectrum workshops and personal work which includes individual therapy and may include supervision.
They prepare a portfolio including a CV, autobiography and written work about their own work, their work at Spectrum and the application of this learning in their personal and professional life.
Each participant works with a programme advisor for support and advice on the development of their programme and the preparation and integration of the portfolio work, the portfolio is then presented for assessment to an internal and an external assessor.
This is a highly individual and exciting programme which allows professionals to increase their level of skill and commitment in their own field. Please apply by writing a letter of application outlining the courses you have attended at Spectrum and your current field of work. For further information please contact Anna Patterson, the current programme advisor.
The professional development programme has short-term and long-term training courses, and offers supervision and training at many levels. Unless stated, all of our courses are open to practising and developing professionals as well as people who want training in humanistic psychotherapy.
All of our professional trainings and courses are experiential as well as theoretical in content. They require participation at a personal level. This is to enable participants to gain felt knowledge of our work and because we believe that it is important to be in touch with our personal development as part of continuing professional development. For this reason we also recommend many of the workshops in our personal development section to explore particular areas of interest or specialisation.
Spectrum has been a pioneer in requiring and providing on-going education for our own accredited therapists and many of our courses are excellent for other therapists and professionals looking for continued professional development. Our professional courses qualify for career development loans and all our professional courses offer continued education credit.
If you are new to Spectrum and are considering participating in any of the long-term courses or entering supervision, we suggest you participate in a workshop in either our personal or professional programme to experience our work and see if it is what you are looking for. If you would like more information regarding our training please contact Maggie McKenzie, director of training and professional development.
